Journals (Part II of III)
Journals (Part II)
By Brad “Scarnecky” Gordon
Last Month, we discussed the importance of images, dating your entries and what type of journal to use. Next, we continue on we continue on with:
- Include a few medium size journals
- Make NO rules for what you put inside
- Choose a larger journal for your unique script
- Create your secret file on the computer for the final work and or presentations
Include a few medium size journals:
Choose different styles and shapes to assist with remembering the information found within. For example; I have a daybook that is purple and one that is red. Inside of the red one, one will find ideas that are more far fetched, or fantastic. Inside purple, are ideas that are based more upon scientific fact or findings.
Do not limit the entries; keep a few journals around so that if by chance one has been misplaced you have one or two readily available to jot down your thoughts. My favorite are the “Mead” 5 X 7 spiral bound journals which can be purchased at “Walmart” for about 2 dollars. They have a double sided brown pocket page at the very front, for keeping special gimmicks, images, articles or cards of interest.
Make NO rules for what you put inside:
This is for inspiration- These are your personal thoughts that will continue to re-inspire you for years and years to come. I took a four year break from magic and upon my return; I found that I had all of these journals that were revolving around the core.
Most of the information I found within the orbiting journals had NOTHING to do with magic but this stuff was so very interesting that “it” regenerated the magical nerves in my mind. They instantly began to triangulate with some of these crazy outlandish ideas, which was a truly welcomed magical experience. I am so thankful that I have continued to keep the journals steadily…
Choose a larger journal for your unique script:
Obtain a slightly larger journal which by visual aid will represent the place where you expand from the core. Choose an idea, then move outward to the scripting journal to transcribe the words you wish to say. Obviously there are many resources available on how to script your magic. I recommend the “Scripting Magic” book by Peter McCabe.
Of course inside of this idea of journaling – you can write script anywhere, however for me this allows for more focus and it is such a strange phenomenon to have labeled a journal in your mind and then when you open it- your brain immediately goes into script mode. I highly recommend trying this out for you, as it works delightfully.
Create your secret file on the computer for the final work and or presentations:
This is where the finished material will go- this is the neat place which will directly reflect all of the years of goofiness and silliness, or total seriousness. Obviously this all depends on who you are and what interests you have.
Moving from the core, outward to the script, eventually becomes the final showpiece, or that special presentation which you desire to add to your show. The sky is the limit. When you reach this point it becomes a true testament of the wonderful process, of which you can begin right now.
Thoughts for now:
Next month in our conclusion to this three part series we will go into a bit more depth regarding what to do with the information and some tips and ideas on squeezing more creativity out of yourself than you thought possible.
Until Then…
Even Warmer Wishes,
