Simple Social Media Tips For Magicians
Obviously in today’s world, you’ve got to stay connected if you want to stay in business. Of course, the major players are Facebook and Twitter. There are others, but we’ll focus on these two. Your goal is to drive traffic to your site. So the whole process comes down to this:
- Have a Nice Looking Site
- Have a Bold Call to Action
- Get Traffic to The Site
When it comes to traffic, you can pay for it or get it for free. Paying for ain’t cheap, so we’ll save that for another day. Let’s look at (for today) how to leverage social media to get traffic to your site.
Social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter) is a good place to start.
Here’s a simple process for growing your following:
- Set up a Twitter account (free) & Facebook page (free)
- Search for Facebook pages of people that my be potential clients and subscribe and/or like their page
- Search Twitter for people that might be potential clients and follow them
- Post as frequently as you can on Facebook (links articles, videos, images, sites, etc. that relate to magic)
- Everything you post on Facebook, Tweet it on Twitter as well
- Everything you Tweet about on Twitter, post it on Facebook
Even if you have no fans/followers/likes on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll still want to do the last three steps.
The idea is to build up a lot of content to give your page some credibility. You don’t have to post anything original on Facebook . . . just stuff that relates to magic in general, performance in general, Entertainment, Event Planning. . . also post things that relate to specific clients you may want to target. Maybe post something about your recent visit to the Dentist office that also happens to be planning an event for the office.
Again, you don’t have to create the content. Just spend some time on Google looking for it, and post links to it.
One final tip for steps #2 & #3 . . . Any local business that you may want to take on as a client may very well have a Facebook and/or Twitter account. Just call them (or go to their website) and ask them what their Facebook (and Twitter) page is.
Then go “Like” them and go “Follow” them. This will help keep you up to date on their posts. You may find information in their posts that would be useful to bring up in a conversation with them when you approach them.
As you start following, liking, posting and tweeting, you’ll start getting followers, friends and “likers.” As you do, start making a point of linking off to your site (you know . . . the awesome looking one with the good call to action). I highly recommend keeping a blog on your site. Then every time you post a blog entry, Facebook it and Tweet it. This process will, relatively quickly, grow your list of people who know about you.
As you continue blogging and posting and following and “liking,” you’ll get more and more traffic to your site. If you’re not sure what to blog about, go back and reread Everything is Magical from the April 2012 issue.
