Everything is Magical
Everything is magical. Children are magical. Cell phones are magical. Music is magical. The mountains in Utah are magical . . . so are the desert plains and the red rocks in the same state. Epiphanies are magical when something (or several somethings) connect together in your brain to form a new idea. Math is magical. Bob Ross is magical. A big long drink of water after a long day out in that Utah desert sun is magical. Snow yesterday and 75 degrees today is magical.
My wireless headphones that I’m using to listen to my magical music are magical. The guitar is magical. Paul Potts is magical.
Magical things are around us everywhere. My guess is that everyone reading this right now could share a story about one or more of the above mentioned magical things. Whether it be a story about something magical your children did or that feeling you had when you saw a clear starry night or felt that crisp clean mountain air, we all have stories of magical moments.
If you don’t have any stories like that, watch the Paul Potts video.
These magical moments and magical feelings are ones that all of us humans here on planet Earth can relate to. That includes your potential clients. One of the keys to keeping your name on the top of your clients’ minds is to be relate-able; be someone they like. One way to help do this is to keep in constant contact with your clients by publishing a monthly (or even weekly) newsletter.
I used to publish a newsletter for my clients back in the day when I was performing on a regular basis. The theme I chose for my newsletter was “The Magic of Everyday Life.” Each email would be a story or experience that illustrated the magic of everyday life. I would discuss something about my children or an experience I might have had at a restaurant or an interaction with a friend, a feeling I had during a movie, etc.
The point was to discuss and share with my clients (i.e. people who may hire me) stories that they can relate to that are magical. Notice, I’m not saying that Utah snow is “magic” but rather, I’m saying it’s “magical.” Snow is not magic; it’s science. But snow is magical. It creates a feeling, especially when you watch someone (e.g. your 1 year old child) experience it for the first time.
I’m offering this to you now as a tool. Create a monthly newsletter whether it be via email or snail mail or both, stay in touch with your clients. Put a link on your website to sign up for your newsletter. Tout it as magic for non-magicians, or real magic in the real world, or the magic of everyday life, etc. This will capture the imaginations of those who may hire you.
Hopefully you’ve already captured the mail and/or email information of your past clients. If not, start now! Set yourself apart and be that guy/gal that the event planners remember when they need entertainment. “Let’s hire that guy that always emails me those cute stories about how magical his kids are . . .”
Until Next Month . . .
P.S. If you decide to move forward with a newsletter, I recommend Constant Contact. That’s who I use. If you sign up through me, you get a $30 credit.
